The Student Bar Association hosts a vibrant array of programs designed to enrich the law school experience and the University of Houston Law Center. From mentorship opportunities and student-led initiatives to our flagship social events like Halloween Bash and Barrister’s Ball, SBA programs offer a mix of community-building, professional development, and much-needed fun during the rigor of law school.

Signature SBA Programs & Traditions

• Adopt-a-1L Mentorship Program
  • Connecting incoming 1L students with upper-division mentors to provide guidance, support, and practical advice on navigating law school.
• 1L Experience Committee
  • A student-led committee focused on creating programming that enhances the first-year experience, builds community, and amplifies 1L voices.
• Halloween Bash
  • One of SBA’s signature fall traditions: an off-campus night of costumes, music, and spooky fun for UHLC students and their guests.
• Barrister’s Ball
  • Our annual spring formal, often described as “law school prom,” where UHLC students and their guests gather off campus for an evening of music, dancing, and celebration.

In addition to these core programs, SBA sponsors and supports a wide range of events throughout the year, including: alumni & practitioner panels; career & networking events; community service & philanthropy initiatives; and wellness, inclusion, & community-building activities.

We encourage all members of the Law Center community to participate in SBA programs.
